Leon H. Wilkinson, 90, of Oxford, formerly of Landenberg, passed away on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at Ware Presbyterian Village, Oxford.
He was the husband of the late Edna Wickersham Wilkinson.
Born in West Grove, he was the son of the late Walter and Beatrice Hocking Wilkinson.
He farmed in Landenberg most of his life.
Mr. Wilkinson was proud to have hosted the late President Reagan at his farm in 1982.
Leon was a former chaplain of the New London Masonic Lodge, leader of the New London-Landenberg 4H, chairman for the Chester County Board of Assessment and Appeals, former president and member of the Pennsylvania Society of Promoting Agriculture, elder at the New London Presbyterian Church, chairman of the Milk Marketing Board, last president of the West Grove Farmers Club, on the board of governors of Southern Chester County Medical Center, adjustor for Federal Crop Insurance, vice chairman of the Southern Chester County Refuse Authority , director and vice president of Landenberg Building and Loan Association, financial secretary of the executive committee for the Chester County Republican Party, director of Pennsylvania Savings Insurance Corp., member of the legislative committee for agriculture for Chester Delaware Farm Bureau, member of the White Clay Creek Task Force, member of the advisory committee for the Delaware River Basin Commission, member of the advisory committee for Hazardous & Solid Waste in Harrisburg, member of the advisory council for Chester County Vo-Tech Schools, secretary of the board of Chester County Medical Center Health Service, member of Chester County Private Industry Council, associate member of the State Grange as well as numerous other accomplishments.
He is survived by four sons, Larry E. Wilkinson and his wife, Doris F., of Gettysburg, Charles L. Wilkinson and his wife, Ann M., of Landenberg, Thomas W. Wilkinson and his wife, Susan Greene, of Weyers Cave, Va., and Lewis H. Wilkinson and his wife, Mary R., of West Grove; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, W. Lawrence Wilkinson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Christian Life Center, 125 Saginaw Road, New London, where friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m.
Interment will be in New London Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
